The target for Hydro is to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030. This through greener sourcing and greener production and the aim is also to help the customers in reducing their emissions through greener products.
Currently, aluminium is experiencing the fastest-growing demand among metals in the world. The main reasons are its low weight and strength as well as the sustainable benefits. Aluminium can be recycled repeatedly, without loss of quality. This makes the metal as a great selection when it comes to construction material for zero-energy buildings.
Innovation and technology development are the key enablers toward CO2-free processes and we always need to actively push for sustainability when develop and producing new products. It is no longer enough to just build energy-efficiently. We need to work hard to minimize emissions from the construction materials we use, including those that are generated when buildings are demolished.
In response to consumer demand for climate-smart products, Hydro has developed two aluminium products. Hydro CIRCAL which consists of at least 75% recycled materials and Hydro REDUXA, produced with hydropower. Hydro is also experiencing a growing demand for CIRCAL and REDUXA for use in BREEAM-certified construction projects. This according to its low carbon emissions.
